GreenOps / DevGreenOps
What?
GreenOps adds environmental aspects to DevOps.
It is a framework for organizations to
- understand the environmental impact of IT,
- set targets,
- and reduce their own footprint accordingly.
GreenOps vs. FinOps
GreenOps saves you more money than Finops. If you want to save on cloud cost, it is actually (way) better to do this in combination with a focus on reducing carbon. People are much more enthusiastic to save cost and the climate, than just save cost. In a real life scenario Mark Butcher presented, only 18% of recommendations were implemented when solely focusing on cost, while 61% of recommendations get implemented when focusing on carbon and cost.
